arla’s Magic began when a rookie newspaper reporter, short on cash, baked cookies as holiday gifts for her colleagues and friends. She baked at night, after work. It was a passion, not a profession, but it continued to grow.
From reporter to press secretary, from newspapers to television, from statehouse to the White House, campaigns and cookies mixed. With politics as a day job, Marla continued to bake, ‘by the light of the moon.’
After three newspapers, two television networks, countless political campaigns – and dozens and dozens of cookies, cakes, pies, pastries and tarts – Marla took a sabbatical from politics to attend L’Academie de Cuisine, one of the nation’s top ten culinary schools. She graduated with honors from the Fine Pastry program and turned her passion for great sweets into a full time profession.
As Pastry Chef at Federal City Caterers in Washington, DC, Marla designed all their desserts, from plated dinners for 2,000 to small Valentine Dinners for 20; as well as wedding and celebration cakes, cupcake towers, and scores of cookies, fine pastries, pies, frozen desserts, breakfast pastries and more. She also worked as a Pastry Cook at Occasions, one of the Washington, DC –area’s largest catering companies.
Today, Marla’s Magic brings to your family, friends, and colleagues treats for every occasion, from corporate breakfast to afternoon baby shower to elegant wedding or intimate dinner party. We can even provide sweet favors as gifts for your guests. And, we ship!
